At Home Physical Therapy

How A Visit Works:

A visit for an evaluation & treatment is scheduled in the privacy and comfort of your home on a set date. During the visit, the physical examination is performed to determine the needs and dysfunction that needs to be treated & cleared out. The objectives, goals and direction of path are then established to reflect the client’s needs, desires & wishes for their own health & wellbeing. All subsequent visits are followed by a brief recap & check of current progress and followed immediately by treatment. Depending on the need of a client, a treatment table is brought in if necessary.

Please be mindful of the allotted time and ready to start at Dr. Silveyra’s arrival time.

Commonly asked questions people have about physical therapy

Can physical therapy be done at home?

Yes it can. At PT Healing At Home a physical therapist comes to you. We’re able to treat a wide range of injuries or conditions in the privacy and comfort of your home. Fore some patients, physical therapy at home can better assist you with any potential challenges you might be facing in your home environment with respect to your injury or condition.

How often should you do physical therapy at home?

The answer is dependent on many factors including the severity and condition of each case. No two patients are the same, therefore, how often and how long will vary from person to person. Once the patient has undergone an evaluation by a physical therapist they’ll be able to better determine a treatment path along with frequency and duration. Other factors that determine how often you should do physical therapy include: the patient’s tolerance for treatment & activity, commitment to care, family involvement and response to treatment.

What is the best time of day to do physical therapy?

There is no specific “best time of day” to do physical therapy.  However, the client should choose a time in which they are fully alert and ready to mentally and physical engage in physical therapy. For some it’s the morning time, for others it is later in the day. These periods of time frequently fluctuate throughout the day and vary from person to person. Patients should choose a time of day in which they know they’ll be ready to participate in physical therapy.

Can physical therapy make things worse?

In general, physical therapy does not make things worse. It makes things better. There are rare occasions when the patient may feel slightly worse post treatment as they heal, but the time period is usually brief and the discomfort is minimal. This also varies based on the PT’s approach to care. The important thing is to find a highly qualified physical therapist that is well trained and knows exactly what they’re doing.

Can physical therapy hurt a torn rotator cuff?

No. Physical therapist are well trained in the treatment of torn rotator cuffs. However, patients should be seen by their doctors to determine the severity of the tear and whether surgery might be needed. If surgery is needed, PT should be halted until after the surgery is performed. Your doctor will likely prescribe PT following surgery. If the rotator cuff tear does not require surgery, physical therapy can help in the treatment and healing of that tear.

Should you ice after physical therapy?

That depends on the treatment you received and your body’s response to that treatment. Physical therapists have different philosophies on treatment approaches with some being more aggressive than others. The condition and its severity should also be factored in. At PT Healing At Home, the approach to care is non-aggressive, but highly effective.

Why does my knee hurt after physical therapy?

Knees hurting after physical therapy can be caused a number of reason including manual treatment performed at or around the knee or physical activity performed during a treatment session. The experience typically subsides after a period of time. At PT Healing At Home, our treatments are non-aggressive and rarely if ever produce any aggravation post treatment.
