Strain Counterstrain

what is Strain Counterstrain?

Strain Counterstrain is a passive positional technique that relieves pain & somatic dysfunction, while improving strength & range of motion. Its gentle and non-aggressive approach in treating an array of conditions has added to its growing popularity.  This technique was originally developed by osteopath Dr. Lawrence Jones and has continued grow and evolve at the Jones Institute.

The effectiveness of this soft tissue manipulation is in its ability to turn off dysfunctional reflexes that keep tissues in a painful & contractile state by slackening and decompressing them. Pain receptors are believed to be deactivated during this work to allow for a release of reflexive guarding of the body’s tissues. This release then allows for a return to normal body tone in the tissues & muscles – providing greater freedom of movement that is pain-free.

This is the primary tool for Dr. Silveyra in treating orthopedic injuries & conditions. She is also a board certified specialist in Strain Counterstrain through the Jones Institute.
